Multiple sources have supposedly confirmed that the popular action RPG Mass Effect, which was released last November, will be heading to the big screens. Producer Avi Arad, who recently got involved with the adaptation of the game Lost Planet, has evidently acquired the rights to Bioware's enormous science fiction universe of Mass Effect.
Naturally the game already offers a great sci-fi premise to base a movie off of: a world full of unique races and environments, the conflict of an unknown evil desiring universal annihilation, and a main character who is the only person who can prevent the crisis from happening. Since the game allows you to choose whether your main character (Shepard) is male or female, it will be interesting to see how Commander Shepard, is portrayed, assuming the movie deal does indeed go through.
I'm personally looking forward to the reincarnation on the big screen, since I thoroughly played through and loved the original game. But hell, if everything falls through the roof we still have Mass Effect 2 to look forward to, which has been announced by Electronic Arts to be released sometime in 2009.
