Doritos Dash of Destruction

Doritos Dash of Destruction
I downloaded the Doritos Dash of Destruction this past weekend on Xbox Live and I have to say it is a very entertaining game to play while you are under the influence. The game starts and you have two choices, to be the T-Rex or the Doritos delivery van. Naturally I chose the T-Rex (who wouldn't), as the T-Rex you've got to gobble up the delivery vans before they have delivered all of their Doritos. So you run around smashing up buildings and eating up the vans. Once you complete a level you've got a mad scientist giving you all sorts of body modifications to make you even more dangerous. But Wait! There's More! You also get achievements for each level you complete and the levels are short so if you're an achievement whore this is definitely a game you need to play. D of D also has multiplayer modes where you can snack on snacks or drive while you snack with friends.

A little background information: The game is part of the Doritos Unlock Xbox promotion with the slogan "You dreamt it, we built it." Dash of Destruction was created by Mike Borland of Sewickley, PA and was developed by NinjaBee.

Oblivious to me, Square-Enix is in the works with a "Director's Cut" if you will of their CG movie, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, from 2006. The film titled, "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete" is essentially the same movie as the original, however, it will contain revised scenes along with some new ones. There have been numerous trailers for the new "version" of the film, but no definite release date has been mentioned.

GameTrailers posted up a new trailer for Bioshock 2 that shows some of the upcoming gameplay. Not much out of the ordinary is shown, but simply giving me more Bioshock to play is fine by me. The release date for the game is said to be set for the fall of 2009.

Yesterday's Daily IGN Fix

Their latest "Daily Fix" video for April 8 reports some huge changes in the world of gaming. Changes such as Silent Scope coming to the iPhone and the rumor of Perfect Dark coming to the Xbox Live Arcade.

However, the two greater announcements released were that first, Will Wright, key figure behind the popular Maxis software company will be taking his leave and heading to a new start-up called The Stupid Fun Club. Second, and even more important to me, is that one of my favorite games of all time, Shadow of the Colossus, has been confirmed to be heading to the big screen.

Will the movie suck? Yes, probably, but I could care less.

While I was casually browsing around IGN I found this little video spoof of Killzone. It was actually fairly well made. I only wish I had a Playstation 3 to play the game on.

Theseus and Minotaur: iPhone Review

Theseus and Minotaur is a cunning little puzzle game on the iPhone's AppStore. The game is based on the original concept of puzzle-maker, Robert Abbott. The premise of Theseus is simple; get Prince Theseus, (who is intricately designed as a blue orb) to the exit of the "labyrinth" without the minotaur (a red orb with horns) eating you. Sounds simple, right? Sorry, no.

Theseus and Minotaur for the iPhone
The mechanics of the game are as follows. The Prince can move one space each turn. You move the Prince by using the directional pad on the screen, or by touching puzzle in the direction you want to go. Immediately after you move the Minotaur will move two spaces in your general direction. This may seem impossibly unfair, but the Minotaur's movement is governed by a strict set of rules. You must use the walls in each level to cleverly out-smart the Minotaur. Did I mention that there are 85 levels in the game. Moreover, did I mention that the game is price at only .99 cents right now?

The game includes a nice "history" feature that allows you undo moves, so you can figure out where you went wrong in the puzzle. This feature is especially welcome in some of the later puzzles where it will take you 50+ moves to successfully complete the puzzle.

The menus are designed nicely enough, though being a designer, I think there is room for improvement (*cough* designactualcharacters *cough*). To give them credit, the animated transitions between levels and in and out of menus is fun to watch. Additionally, the game has a simple medal system. You get a gold medal if you complete the level within the allotted amount of moves and a silver if you go over the allotted amount of moves. The system is nothing special, but if you're a perfectionist (like myself), you will settle for nothing but the gold.

For .99 cents this game is a gem. I'm not sure the original price tag of $3.99 justifies what the game has to offer, but if you're looking for a splendid easy-to-pick-up puzzle game on the AppStore, check out Theseus and Minotaur.

Diablo 2

No one can stop the beast that is Diablo 2. Even with Diablo 3 on the horizon, Blizzard is going to be pushing out a new content patch to Diablo 2.

I am just all types of little schoolgirl excited. I just recently started playing Diablo 2 again for roughly the 8000th time (I'll manage to play through the expansion that I've owned for years one of these days).

Here is the relevant link, for all you non-believers.

Uno Rush Incoming

The classic game of Uno became an instant hit when it hit the Xbox Live Arcade when it was released three years ago. Uno Rush takes the core concepts of the original and gives it a few extra twists to mix up the played-out gameplay.

The largest change in the new game is the ability to play as many cards as possible during your turn. You'll be given a time limit each turn, so if you can manage to chain together the right colors and numbers, you can come out victorious before any of your other opponents even have a turn. How it works is that you will be constantly shuffling around your cards while your opponents are going. This is because the game will always take the top card off of your deck to discard on the community deck. Oh, did I mention that everyone's cards are shown? All this adds up to some quick gameplay that will keep you on your toes, especially when there are challenging of calls.

There are three modes in the Uno Rush: Standard, Partner, and Elimination. Each mode has rules that can be modified to create the exact Uno experience that you're looking for. No official date has been set for Uno Rush, however, it is said to be only a few weeks off.
